Happy SEVENTH Birthday Florida Hospital Toastmasters!

In June of 1999, FH Toastmasters was officially chartered.  To commemorate the event, a "LUCKY 7" Birthday Celebration was held in the Trickel Conference Room "A" on May 31st, 2006.

A Very Special Thanks to the Birthday "Committee" who spent the last few weeks planning for the celebration and arrived early to setup for the day:

Paula Summa - Sara Alsup - Ellen Weiss - Jenola Bradwell
Sandi Van Horn  - Scott Hoehn - Barbara Bonaparte

Within MINUTES of the doors being open, the food was laid out; the US Flag & Banner were in place, the tables were arranged; ballots and agendas were distributed; balloons were placed; everything was immediately in order!

Now THAT is the type of teamwork that makes our meetings look so "easy" to put together.  In reality, a lot of thought and work goes into the final result.  Thank you ALL for your efforts!

Many guests joined us as we celebrated our 7th birthday.  Guests included our Area 16 Governor, Patricia Palumbo, who gave us encouragement, telling us that we are a role model for other clubs to emulate.  Thank you Patricia!

Additional guests included Leigh Schwartz (FH MIS), Claudia  Vera (FH MIS), Susan Mitchell, RN,  Louis Preston (Leadership Development),  Betsy McKeeby (FH Health Ministry), Dame Looby and Sandi Van Horn's grand-daughter, Rae Lynn.  Thank you all for sharing this day with us!

CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?
Seven years have already passed since Florida Hospital Toastmasters was chartered!  Many FH employees have started their Wednesday mornings with great messages, lots of energy and a step toward achieving their work-related and personal goals.

Here, Club President and Charter member,
Sara Alsup (Assistant to Eddie Soler, CFO)  addresses the meeting with her observations of the clubs success over the years.  "We're looking pretty good!" exclaims Sara.

HOW DO YOU MEASURE SUCCESS?
Educational Vice President Ellen Weiss (Interim Administrative Director, Respiratory Care) explains how we have achieved President's Distinguished Club for several years running.  This is not an "all about ME" club... it's an "All about US" club which wins the ribbon.

Ellen then took the reins of the meeting as Toastmaster of the Day.

Let's get this party rollin'!

Today, instead of prepared Speeches, we opted for a meeting of Table Topics (Impromptu speaking).  Charter member, Jenola Bradwell was the Topics Master for the day, so she literally POPPED the QUESTIONS by having members pop balloons to find notes inside, stating what they would be speaking about.  Keeping with the Birthday Theme, members competed for custom plaques to commemorate the day.

Here, member Jocelyn Abernathy (Operations Manager, Community Health Ministry) tells about a fond birthday memory that she has.

TROPHY, TROPHY, WHO GETS THE TROPHY?

With such variety of topics and spontaneous thinking, it was hard to figure who would win the awards today.  The entertainment level was high and the voting was close, as ten members showed off their impromptu speaking skills.  Visit our "Hall of Fame" to see more winners.

Below, member Dale Adams (FH Database Administrator) really meant to burst his own bubble in order to find out his speaking assignment.  He "Toasted" Leigh Schwartz as a make-believe birthday recipient.

Newest member Oleh Brezden (MIS Department) takes the stage and joins in the competition.  Oleh has already taken on numerous meeting assignments and is ready for greater challenges.

Even our Area 16 Governor, Patricia Palumbo (Program Manager, Florida Traffic Engineering) competed today.  Patricia already has her hands full by assisting Six Clubs in her Area. We appreciate all you do, Patricia.

Member Barbara Bonaparte (Case Manager, Select Specialty Hospital) tells us about her favorite childhood birthday memory.  Of course she was reflecting about a RECENT birthday!  I guess that means that she's still a  KID at heart.

The guests look on as the speeches continue.  "Hmm, I wonder if I could do this public speaking stuff?" some are thinking.  Of course you can!  All it takes is a membership application...

THE GREATEST BIRTHDAY GIFT YOU COULD WISH FOR?

Nope, it wasn't a mink-lined Mercedes.  Member Paula Summa (Global Accounts Manager, Managed Care) wished for a cure for cancer instead!  Paula is no stranger to tugging on the heart-strings, as anyone who has heard her past speeches can tell you.

Member Sandi Van Horn (CIU Clinical Education Specialist) had a rare treat while giving her talk.  Her granddaughter, Rae Lynn was a member of the audience.  Now you know why your grandma has so much to say on those family outings, Rae Lynn!

A light-hearted "Roasting" of a fellow member, was the assignment for member Scott Hoehn (Ability Technical Services).  President Sara Alsup was his target for the day.  "There'd be no war if Sara were a world leader.  She'd send everyone to their room if they mis-behaved" Scott joked.

In keeping with the the traditional meeting agenda, member Maureen Alfonso (Radiology Quality Assurance Coordinator) delivers the Timer's report. All members spoke within the time limits required.

Now let's bring it to a vote...

Toastmaster Ellen Weiss awards the Second Place Plaque to Barbara Bonaparte.  Congratulations Barbara!

Member Scott Hoehn receives the First Place Plaque from Ellen Weiss.  Congratulations Scott!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US!
Member Dale Adams leads everyone in singing Happy Birthday.  Dale is very active as a musical director in a theater group outside of Florida Hospital.  Thank you for bringing your Show Biz flair to our club!

HERE'S TO YOU, FH TOASTMASTERS!

Member Scott Hoehn toasts all of the past and present members of the club for all of their accomplishments over the last seven years. Being a Toastmaster himself for over 25 years, he knows a GREAT club when he sees it.  Special thanks was given to FH Hospital for offering another life-enriching program, such as Toastmasters, for the benefit of their employees.  CHEERS!

Two of the Founding Members and Still Current Members,
President Sara Alsup and Past-Officer, Jenola Bradwell
Thank you both for the Heart and Leadership you continually pour into this club!  We All Love You!!!
