Symantec Corporate Club Up And Running!  No Viruses Found!

THIS JUST IN...
SYMANTEC RECEIVES CLUB CHARTER (#1084015)
Welcome to District 47 and Toastmasters International!

The Symantec name is synonymous with computer protection throughout the world.  To keep on top of today's technology, communication is paramount in the company's objectives.  Symantec's Mary Kate Garvin and Area 33 Governor Jeff Rufenacht have held two successful meetings at the Heathrow, Florida office with attendance of more than 30 employees.  "We're excited about the enthusiasm the new Club is generating" said Garvin.  "Many employees are already hoping that we can have multiple Clubs to accommodate different shifts!"

"Club Officers have already been elected; members are quickly volunteering to fill meeting agendas; we even have at least one contestant for our upcoming Area Contest.  You can't possibly ask for more than THAT!" said Governor Rufenacht.

One of the wonderful things about Toastmasters is, as Forrest Gump would say "You never know what you're gonna get".   Who knew that the first official speech that a Symantec employee would give, would be about the origin of the  peanut butter & jelly sandwich?  New member Frank Santorreli gave a hysterical talk covering the history of one of America's popular lunch items, complete with imaginary slides.  NEWS: Frank went on to win the Area 33 Humorous Speech Contest on September 16th.  Way to Go Frank!

Fellow Symantec Toastmasters listened to Frank's speech, followed by an amusing, yet helpful evaluation by Governor Rufenacht.  Evaluation is the key to success in Toastmasters.  Members will learn the many techniques which will help sharpen their speaking skills while honing their listening skills.

Table Topics is the part of Toastmasters where several audience members are given off-the-cuff subjects to which they must give a one to two minute talk.  Impromptu speaking is something we ALL must deal with every single day.  Whether it's around the water cooler, on a support call, in a board meeting or handling a big sale, we all have to think on our feet at a moments notice.

Here, Mary Kate poses questions such as "What would be your favorite job?" and  "How would you gain 10 pounds fast for a role in a Hollywood movie?"  Yes, you never know what you're gonna get...

Committing to lead is a commitment to succeed.  Governor Rufenacht performed an Officer Induction ceremony for the Club's initial leaders.  Each Officer was instructed on their duties and congratulated for stepping up to the leadership plate.  Toastmasters Clubs offer a variety of challenging roles.  From Sergeant-At-Arms to Vice President of Public Relations to Club President, you'll find many ways to use your talents and learn new ones.

The new leaders of Symantec's Club will serve a six month term.  Club Officer training is always offered to ensure a Club's success.

The Charter Club Officers for Symantec Toastmasters were inducted by the Division and Area Governors on September 5, 2007.  Pictured from left to right are Division C Governor Scott Hoehn, DTM, Sgt-At-Arms Courtney Skultety, President Mary Kate Garvin, Secretary Melissa Robertson, Treasurer Tracy-Ann Solomon, VP Public Relations Lee Gormley, VP Membership Carmen Rivera, VP Education Maribeth Kahn and Area 33 Governor Jeff Rufenacht.  Congratulations on your new positions!
