Club, Area, Division, District - What does it all mean?!?! |
Toastmasters International is the World's Largest Non-Profit Educational organization with over 300,000 members in 90 plus Countries. WOW! The World Headquarters website is www.Toastmasters.org How do you assist over 300,000 members? You break it down! Toastmasters International is divided first into Regions. Region 8 (VIII) is comprised of the Southeast United States and the Bahamas. Region VIII's website is http://www.region8tm.org/ The Chief Officer that manages a Region is called an International Director. During the International Convention for Toastmasters, usually held in August, the International Directors are elected. At this time, Margaret Wan, DTM and James Fair, DTM are the International Directors of Region VIII.

Each Region is divided into Districts. District 47 is made up of most of Florida and the Bahamas. There are over 7000 members in District 47, making it the Largest District in the World. In order to more effectively manage this number of members, in 2008 District 47 will be split into two Districts. District 47 will encompass Southern Florida and the Bahamas. The new District for Northern Florida will be District 84. Our incoming District 47 Governor is Wanda Brown, DTM. Her motto for the year is "Dual Paths to Greater Achievements" The District website is www.ToastmastersD47.org Managing a District with 300 plus Clubs is no easy task, which is why it is further divided into Divisions and Areas. District 47 is currently divided into 11 Divisions. This website is for Division "C" of District 47. Division are further broken down into Areas. Your Club is assigned to an Area and an Area Governor. Your Area Governor is there to help make your Club the best it can be. Don't be shy about contacting them with any questions of concern. Also, if you are interested in STARTING a new Club, contact your Area Governor and they'll help get the ball rolling. Being an Officer in the Toastmasters program, counts toward accomplishing educational goals and also gives you great experience which you can apply to your own career. As you progress in Toastmasters, consider being a District Officer. The personal reward of working beyond your Club is tremendous!
