CRUMMER @ ROLLINS TOASTMASTERS CLUB # 995942
Collegiate Energy Joins Area 16!

Rah! Rah! Rollins College has a very dynamic and ambitious Center for Leadership Development!   Dr. Susan Bach, Executive Director for the Center (left)  received a request from one of her students, Rosa Jauregui-Andrews, to form a Toastmasters Club at the College.  "I was a member of Toastmasters several years ago, and really miss the helpful feedback that you normally don't find in any classroom" Rosa told Dr Bach.

Next to Dr. Bach, are the students who got this club off the ground (Rosa Jauregui-Andrews, Steven Matthews and Jonathan Marney).  At far right, is Club Sponsor and Orlando Conqueror's member, Alan Brents.

Sponsoring or Mentoring a new club, also completes one of the many requirements a member needs to achieve the highest designation that Toastmasters International imparts on its members... Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM)!  We wish you well on this endeavor Alan.  Your experience and energy will be highly appreciated as this club forms!

KICKOFF MEETING October 17, 2006 - HUGE SUCCESS!

Due to instant overcrowding, the "Kickoff" meeting for Rollins College had to be quickly relocated to a larger venue.  Even then, the room was nearly "Standing Room Only".

That says a lot for the ambition of Rollins College students as they attended the first meeting of Toastmasters.  Soon, the Business Students will have their own Chartered club, where they can attend on a  weekly basis.

In addition to the communication skills they learn through the club, they will also receive additional educational credit for holding the various Club Officer positions.
When you start with the BEST, chances are... you're going to BE the best!  What a way to start off a Kickoff meeting, than with your best foot forward?  Orlando Conquerors Club #1066 brought some of the finest "guns" in the East.

Karl Righter, a 40 year veteran of Toastmasters, Past District Governor, and Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) gave a talk about "Four Letter Words" that will affect your future in sales (SELL vs HELP).

Tammy Gappen, the Past President of the Conquerors Club, and Assistant Attorney for Orange County, offered suggestions for improvement, as she demonstrated evaluation techniques.

Paula Hickman, Area 33 Governor, not only conducted the Table Topics (impromptu) portion of the meeting, but she also informed the students about how Toastmasters helped her succeed in the Business world.

Jo Ellen Taylor, (one of the top 3 Auctioneers in the World and spokesperson for Monster.com) also demonstrated a technique for evaluation that she learned from fellow member, Andrew Greenstein.  We all learn from each other, and grow from passing the knowledge.

Students listened intently to speeches and evaluations of experienced Toastmasters.

The techniques learned through the programs of this worldwide organization, will help these students succeed in the business world.

Students immediately got involved to the event by participating in the Table Topic (impromptu) portion of the meeting.  A range of subject were given to the participants, who then were to present a one to two minute speech.

Each student that spoke, already had confidence and clarity.  This club will be one to watch in future Speech Contests!

It's all a matter of timing, students learn, as timing lights are used to help speakers gauge the length of their talks.

Alan Brents, addressed the group throughout the meeting.  Alan will be in constant contact with the new Club, as their appointed Sponsor.  Starting a  new club is exciting and challenging.  If you'd like more information, please click here.

Crummer @ Rollins Club meets on alternate Tuesdays from 5:15pm-6:15pm in Building #47 as marked on this drawing.
