Technically Speaking... Florida Technical College is off to a STRONG Toastmasters Start!

A standing-room-only crowd of nearly 100 students filled one of the classrooms at Florida Technical College in Orlando on September 11, 2007.

The reason?  No, this was not a free concert and there was no pizza involved.  These students were making  a statement about their interest in success by attending a "kickoff" meeting for their Speechcraft program!

"Our students never cease to amaze me as they constantly seek more  ways to pursue their goals." Professor James Fiero said.  "The Toastmasters program will be an outstanding addition to the extra-curricular activities that Florida Technical College will be able to offer students", Fiero continued.

FTC specializes in technical fields (computers, medical and more) where communication is a major key when conveying important information.  The Speechcraft program will allow students to segue into their own Toastmasters group to be established at the end of the course.  The course itself will begin on September 18th at 5pm at the college.  Those interested in attending are to contact Professor Fiero at jrcinst@aol.com

The staff and students showed much interest in the kickoff session as they listened to Toastmaster Jeffrey Baker of the Trailblazers Club (#9013).  Baker spoke about changes in technology by traveling back in time (theoretically of course) with Marty McFly and Doc Brown as characters in his speech.

After Baker's talk, the floor was open to all present to speak up!  The Table Topics Master, Larry Gray of Oviedo Toastmasters Club (#3179) challenged several students and faculty members alike, to a round of impromptu speech topics.  Gray's topics ranged from describing recent vacations to "Tell us about the best excuse you've used for not having a homework assignment!"   The response from the crowd ranged from serious to hilarious.

Effective evaluation is the foundation on which Toastmasters is based.  If we don't know how we did, how can we move forward?   Area 16 Governor Toni Gitles evaluated Jeffrey Baker's speech, lauding the strengths and offered suggestions for improvement.  Toni is a seasoned Toastmasters as well as a published author.  Her experience will greatly benefit the new FTC Club in future sessions

"The Toastmasters organization will not only benefit you in your academic pursuits" Division C Governor Scott Hoehn tells the group "but it will complement your daily lives in every aspect.

All attendees are encouraged to SIGN UP NOW for the Speechcraft program to begin on September 18th at 5pm.  Contact Professor James Fiero at jrcinst@aol.com for all the details.

Congratulations to FTC for offering this outstanding program!
