“Getting Better by Giving Back!” is this year’s theme for Area 33. In toastmasters, it’s virtually impossible to give back without getting better. Whether serving as the “Ah-Tabulator”, Table-topics Master, Evaluator, VP of Education, Club President, or just taking the time to fill out an evaluation slip for a speaker to provide them with feedback, WE get better in the process!

Sitting on the mountaintop and looking across the landscape of Area 33, I see past District officers (including Area, Division, and District Governors), I see Distinguished Toastmasters, and I see toastmasters with 20+, 30+, and even 40+ years of experience! I also see guests, swallowing hard, walking through the doors of a club meeting for the first time, full of equal parts anticipation and anxiety (okay, maybe more anxiety). They’ve heard about toastmasters, they believe they could become better, they’ve thought about it for months or even years, but TODAY is the day! What will they find when they walk through the doors? For those guests, and for the new members just starting their toastmaster journey, we owe them the benefit of our experience and our example.

How can we best accomplish this? I believe the best way to share our experience and example will be to have EVERY MEMBER FROM EVERY CLUB VISIT EVERY OTHER CLUB AT LEAST ONE TIME OVER THE NEXT 12 MONTHS! In this way we can all learn from each other, as I believe that there are members in some clubs that have VOLUMES of experience and example to share with other clubs for the good of the club and its members. As that happens, before we know it next June will be here, and we’ll realize that all along the way we have been “Getting Better by Giving Back!”   - Jeff Rufenacht, Area 33 Governor

Area 33's Humorous Speech & Evaluation Contest was incredible!  More than 60 attendees filled the Casselberry Library on September 16th and enjoyed fantastic competition.  As in all close competitions, only one can walk away with the gold.  In this case, the First Place trophy for Best Humorous Speech went home with brand new member of Symantec's Club, Frank Santorelli.  Welcome to the Toastmasters World Frank!  Way to go!  The First Place trophy for Best Evaluator went home with Rudy St Cyr.

Area 33 Governor Jeff Rufenacht presents Toastmaster Frank Santorelli with the First Place Humorous Speech Contest trophy.

Rudy St Cyr receives the First Place Evaluator's trophy from Governor Rufenacht.

Congratulations to our winners who will be competing at the Division C Contest on October 6th at Rollins College.  Come support your Area Champions as they compete with the best of 1100 members in Division C!
